We are delighted to announce that our team member Dr. Felix Paries has received the Dissertation Award of the Freundeskreis der RPTU in Kaiserslautern e.V. for his doctoral dissertation.

The Freundeskreis association honors annually one distinguished doctoral dissertation from each department of the RPTU in recognition of outstanding academic achievement. Its membership comprises around 1,500 individual members, including numerous RPTU alumni, as well as approximately 130 corporate members.

Felix received the award for his dissertation entitled ‘Novel Approaches in Terahertz Spintronics and Field-resolved Spectroscopy’. His research on field-resolved spectroscopy and terahertz spintronics combines fundamental questions in physics with pioneering methodological advances, setting new benchmarks in optical metrology. Among his achievements are the realization of a spatiotemporal terahertz emission nanoscopy that allows the investigation of spin-current driven polaritons with simultaneous nanometer and femtosecond resolution as well as groundbreaking advances in high-precision time-domain spectroscopy that enable a dramatic increase in measurement speed while simultaneously reducing noise. The latter lay the foundation for a new generation of
laser-based, field-resolved infrared and terahertz spectroscopic systems. In the future, such systems could, for example, be deployed in clinical settings for novel ultrafast breath analysis, offering the potential to reduce mortality through earlier and more reliable diagnosis.
