Lightwave Metrology at the Spin+X Retreat 2026

Pierre Koleják and Tim Schönwald joined this year’s Spin+X Retreat, the annual meeting of CRC/TRR 173, held in Bad Dürkheim from 26–28 August 2026.

Pierre gave a plenary talk on Field-Resolved Infrared Spectroscopy: Accessing Light–Matter Interactions, providing the Spin+X community with an overview of the research activities of the Laboratory for Lightwave Metrology. He highlighted the potential of field-resolved spectroscopy as a complementary approach for studying ultrafast dynamics in spintronic systems.

Tim presented his research on Single-Shot Field-Resolved Infrared Spectroscopy for Accessing Ultrafast Dynamics in a pitch talk and during the poster session. His work focuses on single-shot field-resolved measurements, which give access to individual, potentially non-reproducible events rather than relying on averaging over repeated measurements. An important part of this work is combining the single-shot capability with our metrological approach and a quantitative understanding of the shot-noise limit. Discussions during the poster session helped identify processes within the Spin+X community for which such measurements could be particularly relevant and provided useful input on the requirements for future experiments.

Spin+X is a major DFG-funded Collaborative Research Center and one of the large-scale research projects our laboratory is involved in. Bringing together researchers from physics, chemistry and engineering at RPTU and JGU Mainz, it provides a unique environment to explore where field-resolved metrology can bring new experimental capabilities to spintronics.
