We are delighted to welcome Tobias Held to the team.

He received his doctoral degree in 2026 from the Department of Physics at RPTU University Kaiserslautern-Landau. In his doctoral research, he investigated nonequilibrium processes in metals induced by ultrafast laser excitation using numerical simulations.

Through his research, Tobias developed expertise in scientific programming, numerical methods and data analysis. At the Laboratory for Lightwave Metrology, he will apply his computational background to investigate how spectroscopic resolution limits the accuracy of molecular information in spectroscopic fingerprints of gaseous and condensed samples. His work will combine digital twins of spectroscopic setups with information-theoretic methods to better understand the role of instrumental limitations in spectroscopic measurements, as well as to guide the technological development of next-generation field-resolved spectroscopy for biology and medicine.

Outside the lab, Tobias enjoys reading, swimming, and making music, especially playing guitar.
