New Fraunhofer Project “BroadFRS”

Our research group at the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Mathematics ITWM successfully led the acquisition of a new 2,750,000.00 € research project funded by the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. The project brings together the expertise of the Fraunhofer institutes from Kaiserslautern (ITWM), Jena (IOF), and Berlin (HHI) in an attempt to realize a unique field-resolving spectrometer with a sensitivity and speed performance far beyond the current state of the art.

BroadFRS aims to demonstrate a laboratory prototype of a robust, ultra-broadband (0.1-100 THz) field-resolving spectrometer designed for applications in quality control for several industries, as well as biomedical diagnostics. With an emphasis on robustness and compactness, it combines leading expertise in fiber technology (Fraunhofer IOF), the generation and field-resolved detection of THz (Fraunhofer HHI) and mid-infrared radiation, as well as industrial-grade system integration (Fraunhofer ITWM).
