Derya Sujana-Sen and Christoph Döring
In the fall of 2023, when the Laboratory for Lightwave Metrology was founded, we were driven by the vision of further developing the control and sensitivity of generating, and measuring optical waves, respectively, translating these new capabilities into instruments ready for use in biology and medicine and, thus, benefitting healthcare in particular and society in general. However, while establishing the administrative and infrastructural framework for this multidisciplinary experimental research, we’ve encountered numerous challenges. Many of these arose for the first time at our research institutions due to the unique nature of the endeavor.
We warmheartedly acknowledge the invaluable support of two people at RPTU during this highly dynamic build-up time. Our temporary secretary, Derya, made sure that we find a viable administrative modus operandi at RPTU – which was no easy feat given the multiple affiliations of our team members. In addition, Christoph laid the groundwork of the joint laboratory of the teams at the RPTU and the Fraunhofer ITWM, and coordinated all aspects that finally led to the successful implementation of this unique space for scientific experiments and innovation.
Dear Derya and Christoph, we are very grateful for your tremendous contributions to the success of the Laboratory for Lightwave Metrology. Now, as you are moving on to your next challenges, we wish you as much success and fun as you had with us!
